At Scugog Council for the Arts we hire summer student each year with funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program. Each year we’d hire one, and I said “let’s hire and train more!” So now we’ve grown the program and hire and train between five and seven university graduates each year. In 2025 and again in 2026 our grant applications for the Young Canada Works in Arts and Culture were accepted and we’ve hired a full time Curator to mentor from September through March of 2027. So proud to look back on this photo with Melissa Rada (on the left) who was one of the first three I hired, who came back in followign years and is now our Social Media Manager and has created her own business here in Port Perry. And next to me is Jesse Wheelock, again first hired and did three stints with us through Canada Summer Jobs and then stayed with us Full Time as our Director of Programs funded up until recently by an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant. Erin Voisey on the right served two summers and has now moved to Toronto to persue her arts practice and we hope an arts management career.
